King Frederik X of Denmark visited Germany from 20 to 22 September. The son of Margrethe II was visiting Prince Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, his cousin. “The King is on a private trip abroad this weekend”the palace announced on Friday, September 20, rekindling rumors of bickering between the king and his wife, Queen Mary. Last year, Frederik of Denmark was hit by rumors of infidelity after he was photographed with a woman other than his own in the streets of Madrid.
Photographed with his cousin and his cousin’s wife, Princess Carina, at Berleburg Palace over the weekend, the rumors have once again died down. However, his private visit raised some questions for a journalist. During the king’s short absence, Mary of Denmark temporarily became regent and thus head of state of Denmark. On X (formerly Twitter), Jose Moreno picked up the news and wrote: “Now that Prince Christian is out of the country and Queen Margrethe is in hospital, it’s Queen Mary’s turn… Who will be the next member to take over as regent?”he noted, before asking himself: “Prince Joachim coming back to the forefront of the royal family?”

The palace gave an update on her on 21 September, revealing in particular that she had left the hospital and returned to Fredensborg Palace. While this news is reassuring, Margrethe II nevertheless suffers from a fracture of her left hand and a shock to the cervical vertebrae which will force her to wear a neck brace for several months. While her “morale is good” According to the palace, all the events noted in his diary have been cancelled. Faced with his unavailability and that of his grandson, the question of the regency in the country therefore arises. Indeed, according to the law, a regent must replace the head of state during his stay abroad. Does this mean that the royal couple will not travel abroad together or that someone else in the family – Joachim for example – will take over? The next few months should answer this question…
