Disappointing prices in August for the Netherlands and Spain

Tomato prices in August were not brilliant. Prices of round and vine tomatoes were below those of July, and also more than 10% lower than those of August 2023, with the exception of , where prices increased compared to last year.

Tomato prices have recently increased, but it remains to be seen whether this can offset the summer drop.

The lowest figures are those of Spain, with prices that have fallen below the five-year average. This is not the case in the Netherlands, Italy and France.

Despite prices being lower than last August, prices for round, vine and specialty, snack and cherry tomatoes in the Netherlands are still above the five-year average. Prices average 70 euro cents for vine tomatoes, 76 euro cents for round tomatoes and more than 2.13 euro cents per kilo for small segment specialties.

Overall, this gives an average price of €1.28/kg in August, which is slightly above the five-year average of €1.21, but significantly lower than last summer’s price of €1.42.
