The investigation into the origin of Hezbollah’s beeper bombs that exploded in Lebanon is gathering pace in Taiwan. Two representatives of Taiwanese companies have been questioned there, the prosecutor’s office confirmed on Friday, without revealing any names.

As a reminder, the New York Times claimed the beepers were made by Taiwanese company Gold Apollo and rigged by Israel. But Gold Apollo denied the reports, pointing the finger at its Hungarian partner BAC, which is allowed to use its trademark. “These are not our products […] from start to finish,” its director, Hsu Ching-kuang, told reporters in Taipei on Wednesday.

The Hungarian government, for its part, assured that BAC was “a commercial intermediary, without a production or operational site in Hungary.”

Gold Apollo manufacturer raided

On Thursday, AFP journalists saw Hsu Ching-kuang enter the investigators’ office with a woman. Local media identified the woman as a representative of a Taipei-based company, Apollo Systems, which is linked to BAC.
