Harry Potter’s first love, back on screen? Actress Katie Leung, who played the role of Cho Chang in the “Harry Potter” saga at the cinema, is back in action. And she joins another big franchise: “The Bridgerton Chronicle”.

Leading the new family that will give the Bridgertons a hard time

She’s not the first to go from “Harry Potter” to “Bridgerton.” Freddie Stroma had already gone from the Gryffindor Quidditch team to Crown Prince of Prussia in the adaptations of Julia Quinn’s books. Regé Jean Page also, after a (very) small role in “The Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” distinguished himself as the Duke of Hastings, at the heart of the first season of the series.

Katie Leung thus becomes the third former Hogwarts student to return to Queen Charlotte’s palace, at the head of an English nobility reimagined by Netflix. And if she had won our hearts by playing the charming Cho Chang, grieving after the tragic death of Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson), her new character risks being less popular.

The 37-year-old Scottish actress will don the costume of Lady Araminta Gun. Twice widowed, she intends to marry off at least one of her two daughters, Rosamund (Michelle Mao) and Posy (Isabella Wei), as soon as possible. She then sets her sights on Benedict, the bohemian younger brother of the Bridgerton siblings.

In a Netflix announcement, she is described as “fabulous, insightful and outspoken,” but the type to “lose her cool when something – or someone – threatens her position in society.” And, if we refer to the literary series, her biggest rival should be Sophie Beckett, renamed Sophie Baek in the Netflix version, for whom Benedict Bridgerton has a crush. And, to say the least, the two women have a complicated history: after Arminta married Sophie’s father, Sophie found herself relegated to the rank of servant. Did you say “Cinderella”?

A “Harry Potter” series in preparation

The “Harry Potter” universe will soon be getting a new adaptation, this time as a television series, with HBO at the helm. However, you’ll have to be patient: casting for the actors who will play Harry, Ron and Hermione has just begun in the United Kingdom and Ireland. For their part, fans of the franchise are only asking for one thing on social media: to see Cillian Murphy play the role of Voldemort…
