Sauzé-Vaussais: a fire in the Thébault company, 10% of the equipment damaged

In Sauzé-Vaussais in Deux-Sèvres, a fire broke out this Monday, September 16 in one of the buildings of the Thébault company, rue de Saulnière. According to the emergency services, the fire started from a pile of wood chips of 90 m³. The 13 employees still present on the site were evacuated.

Around forty firefighters mobilized

On site, around forty firefighters were mobilised with six fire hoses to put out the flames, specifying that the operation would be “long lasting” to prevent any return of fire in the company that manufactures plywoodThe company director and the mayor of the town visited the site.

On Tuesday morning, around ten firefighters were still on site monitoring the scene following the fire at the maritime pine processing plant. The fire damaged about 10% of the plant’s hardware installationswhich employs 85 people.

This company, which has several sites across , has a total of 400 employees. Although production was interrupted on Tuesday, it will resume on Wednesday morning. In order to ensure the continuity of production, part of the operations will be temporarily transferred to a site located in the Landes. The site produces 45,000 m³ of plywood panels each year, or a third of the company’s national production. “A major player in Mellois”, recalls the mayor of Sauzé-Vaussais, Nicolas Ragot, who also visited the site.
