A fire broke out in a 15-storey building in Haubourdin, in the North, on the night of Sunday 15 to Monday 16 September 2024. For reasons still unknown, the fire started in an apartment located at 11e floor, reports The Voice of the North .

Around thirty firefighters arrived on the scene at 1 a.m. They were unable to do anything to save a man, who was found unconscious at the foot of the building.

Aged around sixty, he is said, according to witnesses, to have jumped from his home to escape the flames. His fall, of several dozen meters, was fatal.

Investigations in progress

The fire did not cause any other casualties, as the occupants of the other apartments spontaneously evacuated the premises. Six people were affected by the smoke but did not need to be taken to hospital, the report said. 3 Hauts-de-France .

After several hours of intervention by the firefighters, the residents were able to return to their homes around 5 a.m.

An investigation has been opened. The victim’s body was taken to the forensic institute to determine the circumstances of the events. For the time being, the police are not ruling out any leads.
