Emmy Awards 2024: “Shogun” breaks record, “My Little Reindeer”, “Hacks” and “The Bear” win

The 76th Emmy Awards ceremony created a surprise on Sunday evening in Los Angeles, with the historic triumph of the Japanese series “Shogun“. Crowned best drama series, it won a total of 18 awards, an absolute record!

“Shōgun” Makes History

The historical fresco “Shogun“, broadcast in on Disney+, created a stir by winning the prestigious award for best drama series. A first for a non-English-language production, which confirms the growing openness of the American public to works in foreign languages.

With no less than 18 awards in total, “Shogun“sets a new record for a single-season drama series. Writer Justin Marks highlighted the audacity of this project: “You have validated a very expensive, subtitled Japanese period series, the climax of which takes place around a poetry competition.

The two stars of the series were also crowned: Hiroyuki Sanada (best actor) and Anna Sawai (best actress). “It was a dream project where East meets West”the Japanese actor rejoiced. His on-screen partner described her role as “role of a lifetime”.

“Hacks” and “The Bear” rewarded

Against all odds, it is the series “Hacks” HBO's Emmy for best comedy, beating the big favorite “The Bear”. Jean Smart, who plays a declining comedian in “Hacks“, won the award for best actress in a comedy for the third time in a row.

If “The Bear” didn't take home the top trophy, but the cooking series still shone in the acting categories. Jeremy Allen White (Best Actor), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Best Supporting Actor) and Liza Colon-Zayas (Best Supporting Actress) all won for their performances.

“My Little Reindeer”: Netflix's controversial phenomenon in the spotlight

In the hotly contested category of best mini-series, it's “My little reindeer” which stood out. This chilling story of a man harassed by a woman suffering from mental disorders, inspired by the personal experience of its creator Richard Gadd, won over the jurors.

Richard Gadd not only won Best Actor, but also Best Screenplay.

Jessica Gunning, who was stunning in her role as the stalker, was named best supporting actress. The accolade comes as the British actress who inspired the character sued Netflix for defamation, claiming $170 million in damages.
