“Sometimes no one asks the players what they think about adding matches”said the Brazilian goalkeeper at a press conference before the match against AC Milan. “Maybe our opinion doesn’t matter, but everyone knows what we think about having more games. Everyone’s had enough.”

In the new Champions League format, where the groups are eliminated in favor of a single pool, each club involved will play at least eight matches and no longer six before a possible participation in the knockout phase.

Another major change expected this season is the overhaul of the Club World Cup, which expands the FIFA-organized competition to 32 teams that will compete from mid-June to mid-July. Earlier this month, the world football union FIFPro called for protective measures for players, who are subject to excessive workloads in an ever-lengthening schedule.
“We understand that there is the media and television side, the UEFA side, FIFA, the Premier League and other national competitions”Allison continued. “We are not stupid. Liverpool could play more than 60 games this season, having played 58 last season. Alisson has played more than 40 games in 2023-24, for club and country.
