Death of cellist Aleksandr Khramouchin

The Belarusian cellist, resident in Belgium, Aleksandr Khramouchin died suddenly this Saturday, May 13 at the age of 43 following a septic shock.
Born in Minsk in 1979 into a family with a long musical tradition, he joined Vladimir Perlin’s class in 1985. He moved to Belgium in 1992 and continued his training at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. He benefits from the advice of renowned pedagogical soloists such as Janos Starker, Natalia Schakhovskaya, Dmitri Ferschtman, or Boris Pergamenschikow.
First prize in several international competitions, he was a finalist in the twelfth edition of the Tchaikovsky competition in 2002 – the year in which there was no first cellist winner.
From the age of 19, he joined the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra as first cellist soloist, a position he held until 2019. He also joined the Quatuor Aviv from 2010 to 2015. Passionate about pedagogy, he was, among other things, a teacher at the Musica Mundi School in Waterloo until 2021.
As a concert soloist, he played under the direction of conductors such as Emmanuel Krivine, Patrick Davin, Valery Polianski and Lev Markiz and was a renowned chamber musician. He leaves in this last field several discs published by Timpani (a recital devoted to Gabriel Pierné with Christian Ivaldi, the Sonata for cello and piano by Jean Cras in world premiere with Alain Jacquon, or even the complete chamber works for cello by Maurice Ohana with Pascal Devoyon or the chamber music of Jean Huré) and more recently, with his wife Eliane Reyes, at Azur Classical, a recital dedicated to the sonatas of Serguei Rachmaninov and César Franck.
