Two-time tournament champion Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Wimbledon singles draw for health reasons. The Scot recently underwent surgery to remove a cyst on his spine, which had been pressing on his nerves and causing him to lose control and strength in his right leg.
“Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his surgery just over a week ago, Andy has made the very difficult decision not to play singles this year,” Murray’s team said.
In doubles with brother Jamie
“As you can imagine, he is very disappointed, but has confirmed that he will play doubles with his brother Jamie and is looking forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time.” He had already stated beforehand that he would probably not continue his career beyond this year.
Murray ended the 77-year wait for a British winner at Wimbledon in 2013 and won the title again in 2016.
