NBA Draft 2024: What about LeBron’s son Bronny James?
There was a time when everyone expected LeBron to play alongside his eldest son at any cost. He would even leave the Lakers and join the team that drafted Bronny. The King has now distanced himself somewhat from that, but his last name and the potential consequences made it almost impossible to objectively assess Bronny’s strengths and weaknesses for a long time.
The 19-year-old is definitely not a super talent in the style of his father, and he only played a small role at USC. But Bronny is athletic, a good defender and has a high basketball IQ. He has also dealt well with his occasional heart problems. At the same time, however, he is also a very poor shooter and not a good ball handler.
Bronny will probably end up going a little higher than expected because some team in the second round would rather secure the minimal chance of getting his father than a slightly better player who would still have a tough time. In recent years, sons of former NBA or basketball greats have also usually done better than expected.
And then there is the powerful advisor Rich Paul from Klutch Sportswho conquered the NBA together with his friend LeBron. Paul’s influence is another difficult-to-quantify factor in Bronny’s future. He didn’t get his clients many workouts, and he’s also after a fully guaranteed contract. “There’s no agreement that LeBron will stay with the Lakers if they draft Bronny at position 55. If that were the case, I’d force them to select him at position 17,” he recently revealed to ESPN.
He specifically mentioned Minnesota (37th pick), Dallas (58th pick) and Toronto (31st pick). He probably didn’t do that for nothing. So let’s just assume that Bronny will end up with one of these three teams.
