The Euro group stage ended this Wednesday with a surprise 2-0 victory for Georgia over Portugal. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia trapped the Lusitanians at the very start of the match, opening the score in the second minute. The Georgians then held the score thanks to their impervious defense and struck later in the second half on the counterattack. A penalty converted by Georges Mikautadze doubled the lead.

With this success, Willy Sagnol’s men finished third in their group and validated a historic qualification for the round of 16 for their very first participation in the Euro. In the other match in Group F, the Czech Republic, reduced to 10 men in the 20th minute of play, conceded defeat 2-1 against Turkey in the final moments. They were eliminated while the Turks secured second place in the group.

In this context, the four best third places are to be found in groups C, D and E in addition to group F. These are Slovenia, the Netherlands, Slovakia and therefore Georgia. Croatia, already eliminated, and Hungary, remain at the dock. The last results of the evening made it possible to establish the complete table for the final phase, which is here.

The Euro table ⬇️

Upper part
Spain-Georgia | June 30, 9 p.m.
Germany-Denmark | June 29, 9 p.m.
Portugal-Slovenia | July 1, 9 p.m.
France-Belgium | July 1, 6 p.m.

Lower part
Romania-Netherlands | July 2, 6 p.m.
Austria-Türkiye | July 2, 9 p.m.
England-Slovakia | June 30, 6 p.m.
Switzerland-Italy | June 29, 6 p.m.

The upper part of the table, made up of Spain, Germany, Portugal and France, is by far the most formidable. The Nati, integrated into the lower part, therefore has a real chance to play. In the round of 16, she will challenge an Italy far from its best years and could find, in the event of qualification, an England close to crisis in the quarter-final.

The table seems even more open for the surprising Austrian team, first in group D ahead of France, the Netherlands and Poland. Ralf Rangnick’s selection will face Turkey in the round of 16 and could then face the winner of the Romania-Netherlands match in the quarterfinals. Remember that they have already beaten the Batavians in the group stage. This is perhaps the beginning of a great epic.

Besides Switzerland-Italy, the biggest shocks of these round of 16 are France-Belgium and Germany-Denmark. Matches not to be missed under any circumstances!
