Viktor Bala Wants Revenge On The US For Their Role In His War Crimes

Viktor Bala is the big bad of The Night Agent season 2 and the patriarch of the Bala crime family. He’s a dangerous and manipulative man who was once the dictator of his home country. He used the Foxglove KX gas, which was provided to him by the US, on his own peopleand the US cleared any evidence of their involvement, causing his motive for revenge. At the start of season 2, Viktor is held in The Hague, a city in The Netherlands, where he manages to pull the strings of his criminal operation from behind bars.

Audiences are first introduced to Viktor Bala in episode 6 when his son Tómas meets with him in The Hague. Viktor doesn’t seem to be very fond of Tómas, preferring his nephew Markus, who’s more of a ruthless tool who can be used for war. Viktor reveals that he has a devastating plan to commit a terrorist attack on American soil to send a message. He intends to use Foxglove as a weapon against the UN, believing the international organization to be in the pocket of the United States.

Tómas Bala is one of the more complicated members of the crime family, as he’s been distant from them for years. He notably has a British accent, unlike his father and cousindue to having gone to school in the UK. The distinction is important for his narrative arc, symbolizing his differences from his family members and the results of how they treat him. In episode 6, Viktor reminds Tómas of when he was a child, and they would go hunting, and how Tómas would complain about having to do it and then reap the rewards at the end, essentially accusing him of being weak and feminine because of his mother’s influence.

Tómas is much different than his cousin, Markus, who’s much more of a “war dog” who follows Viktor’s ruthless commands. This duality creates vital conflict between the Bala family in The Night Agent season 2, as Tómas isn’t entirely on board with what his father is planning. Regardless, Tómas gets involved, hoping to prove himself to his father, leading to his untimely fate at his villainous cousin’s hands, leaving his girlfriend Sloane to be involved in the season 2 climax where she’s held captive by Markus.
