Once again Sven Ulreich is making a name for himself with unsportsmanlike behavior. During the slap in Rotterdam, the FC Bayern keeper was thrown off the pitch.

Bayern’s goalkeeper Sven Ulreich could actually have a relaxed season. His club is at the top of the table in the Bundesliga, with new coach Vincent Kompany the team has stabilized again after turbulent seasons and Ulreich’s salary, at a reported 1.4 million euros per year, is one of the highest that a substitute keeper receives in the league.

Ulreich has only appeared on the pitch twice so far this season. Nevertheless, he is experiencing an extremely turbulent season.

Because the 36-year-old doesn’t fit the cliché of the good bench warmer. Ulreich is always passionate about his FC Bayern games. This led to the new replacement being thrown off the pitch in his team’s 3-0 defeat in the Champions League against Feyernoord Rotterdam on Wednesday evening. Shortly before the end of the game he was shown a red card by the French referee Francois Letexier. In the 90th minute, the Bayern substitute trotted towards the players’ tunnel.

What exactly happened is still unclear. The action could not be seen on the images, only Ulreich’s departure from the interior of the stadium. According to the dpa news agency, Ulreich is said to have been flown because of complaining.

It is not the first time that the goalkeeper has attracted negative attention this season. During the Bundesliga first leg between champions Leverkusen and FC Bayern at the end of September 2024, he called Bayer manager Simon Rolfes a “wanker”. There was no red card because the referee didn’t hear it, but Ulreich was subsequently banned for one game by the DFB sports court and had to pay a fine of 20,000 euros.

Bayern’s substitute goalkeeper had also received several reprimands in recent seasons. He was shown a yellow card by the referees four times for complaining, and only once was he on the pitch himself. There’s one thing you certainly can’t accuse Ulreich of: a lack of commitment to FC Bayern.
