Light snow today, still cold at times this week

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The extreme cold is firmly in the past, but it will still be chilly to start this Wednesday. Air temperatures will be in the single digits above zero. Wind chills will finally be above zero later this morning.

The extreme cold is gone, but it will still be chilly, at times, this week. In addition, we have snow in the forecast today and on Saturday.

Today remains our best chance for snow for the rest of the week. A couple slick spots cannot be ruled out depending on how much snow your community picks up, but we have had much worse road conditions this Winter. Another round of snow will also be possible tonight heading home from work as well. Cumulatively, snowfall will stay under an inch across basically all communities. The only communities that could end up with slightly higher totals is up in the Northwoods, but that’s not a guarantee.

Wind chills will finally become positive this afternoon. Air temps will top out in the low-20s today.(WSAW)
Winds will blow about 10-15 MPH our of the southwest. This will keep sub-zero wind chills early, but it will also allow us to warm up quickly despite cloudy skies.(WSAW)

A cold front will pass through behind any late snow Wednesday night, causing us to cool off a little on both Thursday and Friday. It will not be NEARLY as cold as the first half of this week, but they will likely be the two coldest days within the next week or so.

More snow is possible on the evening commute tonight.(WSAW)
Snowfall will stay under an inch today, but it’s enough snow to cause slick spots with how cold we have been the last few days.(WSAW)
The coldest wind chills remaining this week are expected to be -15° to -25° Friday morning.(WSAW)

Wind chills are expected to become sub-zero again early on Thursday & Friday. As low as -10° to -20° wind chills will be possible both mornings, but Friday will be the colder of the two by far.

Our only other chance for snow, after today, will be Saturday afternoon up north.(WSAW)
Snow will likely stay under an inch across all communities on Saturday.(WSAW)

As we get into this weekend, we still have a chance for snow throughout the Northwoods and as far south as around Highway 29. This snow is also trending fairly light and under an inch.
