Down a man and down 1-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen, Atlético de Madrid needed a hero, and they got one in Julián Álvarez, who is quickly becoming a Champions League specialist.
His equaliser early in the 53rd minute saw him latch onto a brilliant long ball from Antoine Griezmann, shrug off Jonathan Tah and expertly finish past Matěj Kovář with a low left-footed shot.
He then grabbed the winner in the final minute, again benefiting from Leverkusen failing to deal with a long ball, and brilliantly finishing from a narrow angle again.
The brace makes it 16 goal for Atleti since his blockbuster move from Manchester City, six in the Champions League this season, and amazingly his 18th goal contribution (14 goals, four assists) in 13 total starts in the competition (23 appearances overall).
-The Argentine forward has already lifted the famous trophy in his time under Pep Guardiola. Could he do so again under Diego Simeone this year?
