The Australian journalist singled out by star Novak Djokovic for comments deemed “insulting” towards him and towards Serbian fans has reiterated his “apologies”.
This Sunday, Novak Djokovic, the ten-time winner of the Australian Open, left the court in a hurry, skipping the traditional post-match interview, after his qualification 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 against the Czech Jiri Lehecka before justifying himself, at a press conference: “A few days ago, a famous sports journalist from Channel 9 made fun of Serbian fans and made insulting comments about me”.
On Monday, the Australian journalist, employed by the official broadcaster of the tournament, reiterated his «excuses», stating that he had “exceeded the limits”, selon The Athletic.
-“I immediately contacted Djokovic's team to apologize (…) for any lack of respect felt by Novak and of which I was the originator. Today (Monday), I can only reiterate these apologies to Novak.declared presenter Tony Jones during a program on Channel 9, three days after parodying the chants of Serbian supporters in a way deemed offensive by Novak Djokovic.
