The 93e edition of Cornelian Prizelarger mounted trotting horse racewill bring together 18 protagonists this Sunday January 19, 2025at 3:15 p.m., on the black track of the Paris-Vincennes racecourse, one week before the famous Prix d'Amérique, the equivalent of harnessed trotting.
The great Manchoise imprint
Like the Prix d'Amérique, this race is marked with the seal of the Channelhorse land at the origin of the first official trotting races in France, in 1836 on the beach of Collignon, in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.
Two mares trained in Beuzeville-la-Bastille are on the starting list: the richest with 1.4 million euros in winnings Blue Granvillaise2e in 2022 and 2023, by Pierre Levesque, and Gold Voicefreshly arrived in the boxes of Thomas Levesque, Pierre's son.
Born and trained in the Channel
Pregnant, Camille Levesque is not riding this winter. This is why Alexandre Abrivard will be associated with Granvillaise Bleue.
Coming from the maternal line of Ivarosa highlighted by André and Madeleine Fouquetin Teurthéville-Bocage, and their affix “de Brévol”, Granvillaise Bleue was bred by Michel Gallier (from Loreur, near Bréhal) whose white and blue striped jacket has already won this Prix de Cornulier three times thanks to crack I de Bellouetfrom 2004 to 2006.
Where does this name Cornulier come from?
Member of Parliament for Calvados who lived at the Château de Fontaine-Henry, between Caen and Courseulles-sur-Mer, Marquis Gontran de Cornulier was co-founder in 1864 of the Society for the Encouragement of the Improvement of the Half-Blood French Horse Breed which became the current French Trotter Society.
Granvillaise Bleue is co-owned by Michel Gallier and Didier Levionnais, a major merchant from Granville. His racing career has been praised by the great trainer Pierre Levesque, whose team (now reduced in number) is in good shape. What if Granvillaise Bleue won this 2025 edition? It's possible!
Countless Manchester victories
Especially since the Levesque family displays great success in this Prix de Cornulier. Pierre Levesque, then a young jockey, won it in 1985 with Mirande of the Dial. Pierre's grandfather, Henri Levesque, already won it in 1961 and 1962 as a trainer thanks to the champion Monthentrusted to a young Manche jockey: Francois Brohierwhich reissued the following year with Ol Est B for Ms. Barbé.
-Prince of Veysraised by the ancestors of the Avenel family, won in 1964 for the Maurice de Folleville. Then the Levesque jacket worn by François Brohier won the following edition thanks to Quovaria ! François Brohier also won in 1971 with Uniflor D et Louis Sauvé(already winner in 1960 with Ledollar) reissued in 1977 and 1979 with Fanacques .
Also born in Bacilly, Jean-Claude Hallais won it in 1989 associated with Dream of Udonthen in 1994 as jockey and trainer of Long live Ludoise . And his brother Joël is therecord winning coach : Kaiser Trot in 1981, 1982 and 1984; Oligo in 1986 and 1987; All Good in 1993; One du Rib in 2007 and 2010.
The speed record (1'11″2 average per kilometer) dates from Bilibili's victory in 2019, an edition in which Dexter Fromentro(another protégé of the Levesque family) finished 3e. Let us also remember that Bahia Quesnotborn in Brix with the Lefèbvre family, won this great event in 2021 and that Roxane Griff double winner in 2014 and 2015, comes from the maternal line of Ua Uka who had the great years of Lécuyer breeding.
Great Manche jockey-driver, the Avranchinese Franck Nivard won it in 2008 with Magnificent Rodney and the Carentanais David Thomas in 2010 in the saddle on One du Riband in 2013 with Our arm nothing compared to… Quarry Bay et Camille Levesque !
Among the particularities of this very open 2025 edition, Gazelle de Val presents itself as undefeated in seven attempts at the climb. Nine of the eighteen starters were declared by their coaches with a green emoji: Jasmine de Vau, Intouchable, Gold Voice, Joumba de Guez, J'Aime Le Foot, Grace du Digeon, Edition Gema (run in Mayenne by apprentice lad jockey Armand Lay-Pottier, grandson of the well-known Cotentin trainer Clovis-Yves Pottier)Ideale du Chêne and Granvillaise Bleue.
On the grandstand side, more than 10,000 seats were sold in pre-sale thanks to the La Folie Douce entertainment: toboggan runs, snowboard simulators, artistic shows, DJ sets, raclettes, Savoyard burgers, mountain pizzas, charcuterie and cheese boards, etc. .
For punters, by playing Quinté + at points of sale or on the PMU + app, they will be able to win the bank of one million euros.
Our prediction: Granvillaise Bleue, Ideale du Chêne, Gazelle du Val, Joumba de Guez, Jezabelle Bie, Edition Gema, Jasmine de Vau.
