Skiing, super g Wengen: favourites and times

Bologna, 16 January 2025 – Everything is ready for wengen for the traditional weekend of speed and technique. Three days of great entertainment at the Lauberhorn with super g on Friday, downhill on Saturday and slalom on Sunday. A great alpine skiing classic stands out in a spectacular weekend that also includes, this time for women, the Olimpia delle Tofane and Cortina d’Ampezzo. The speed sector is still the one in the best shape in the national team, even if the podium of From Aliprandini in Adelboden gives us hope for the World Championships, so we will go in search of glory on two legendary slopes. In the meantime, off to Wengen with the first race which will be the super giant with Broken who wants to be the protagonist once again.

The situation and the favourites

After three super giants, Marco is leading, needless to say Odermatt with 205 points, but the Norwegian Fredrik Moeller is close to 200, with Vincent Kriechmayr third at 142 and an excellent Mattia Broken fourth at 139. The Italian had a strong performance in Gardena, first, while he remained outside the top ten in Bormio (eleventh) and Beaver Creek (sixteenth), but in general he is demonstrating a confidence and a condition that perhaps he has never had in his career. If he were to find continuity he could also think about playing for the specialty cup, even if against the Swiss cannibal it is difficult for anyone. As for the favorites, two of the three recent winners in super G are not there: Accepted Source e Sarrazintriumphant in 2023 and 2024, are in the pits, so the main favourite is undoubtedly Odermattfirst in 2022 and third in 2023. But surprises are around the corner. There is obviously the Norwegian Moellervery fearsome, but also Odermatt’s compatriots like rogentin e Meillard I’m not far behind. There’s definitely Vincent too Kriechmayrwho wants to return to the highest levels. In Italy the main card is Mattia Brokenthe most fit player in the national team, then there’s Dominik Paris intent on regaining a top position. The team will also be completed by Giovanni FranzoniChristophe InnerhoferEmmanuel BuzziNicholas MolteniBenjamin Jacques AlliodFlorian Schieder and Gregory Bernardi.
