Toby Alderweireld was anything but pleased with the conditions in the Lotto Park of RSC Anderlecht. The Great Old lost 1-0 in the first leg of the semi-final of the Croky Cup. The captain of Antwerp looked back on the match and indicated that it was especially difficult to play Football on the field.
Alderweireld also played against Beerschot last weekend on a limited pitch. “You can deny it, but playing on such a field for two weeks in a row… Then we wonder why no one watches the Belgian competition. You can’t play decent football on this,” he quotes Sporza the captain of Antwerp.
“Certainly as a defender you are constantly concerned about the possibility of slipping, for example. Sometimes I just tripped over a pot of sand. Unseen! Look, with our qualities we are a football team,” said Alderweireld.
Alderweireld concludes with good courage on behalf of Antwerp. “Of course we don’t want to put everything on the field – we can do better ourselves. We can live with this 1-0. In three weeks we can put this right on a good field and with our supporters,” concludes Alderweireld.
