Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare found the net once again, although his Genk side suffered a 2-1 loss to Club Brugge in the first leg, semi-finals, of the Belgian Cup on Wednesday.
The goal marked his 15th of the season and his second in the Belgian Cup, highlighting a highly productive campaign for the 6’5″ striker.
Arokodare opened the scoring in the 28th minute after sustained pressure from Genk on the Brugge defence.
He capitalized on a well-delivered cross from the right with a deft finish to put his team ahead.
However, Brugge quickly responded. From a corner kick in the 34th minute, Joel Ordonez rose highest to head the ball into the net, equalizing the game at 1-1.
The first half concluded with both sides level.
The second half was a feisty affair, but only one goal separated the teams.
Greek forward Christos Tzolis scored the decisive goal in the 74th minute from the penalty spot, securing Club Brugge’s victory.
Genk has all to do as they seek to overturn the first leg result when they host the return leg of the fixture.
Another Nigerian, Raphael Onyedika, featured for Club Brugge from the start but was taken off in the 80th minute.
Arokodare’s Performance vs Club Brugge
Arokodare played for 75 minutes and scored Genk’s lone goal before being substituted by Oh Hyeon-gyu. During his time on the pitch, he had 34 touches on the ball and managed one shot on target.
The 24-year-old completed all two passes he attempted and recorded a total of 19 passes, 14 of which were successful.
In aerial duels, Arokodare won two out of the three he contested.
On the ground, he was equally competitive, winning four out of six duels.
