Philippe Clement: It Was A Positive Performance

PHILIPPE Clement said he couldn’t have asked for much more from his team as they defeated Aberdeen 3-0 at Ibrox this evening.

The victory saw Rangers extend their unbeaten home run in the Scottish Premiership this season, with goals from Hamza Igamane, Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers sealing the points.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Clement said: “I am very satisfied, I don’t think you can ask much more than they did today, for sure not in the will in what they wanted to do. We wanted to dominate the game and to grab the opponent by the throat from the first second until the last and they did.

“Scoring three goals also is a very positive point, although it could’ve been more, we hit the post and the bar and had a few other good opportunities. This is what the fans want to see, and you felt that also. I am most pleased that the synergy was back between fans and players on the pitch and that is what we need to continue doing in the next weeks and months.

“Keeping a clean sheet and not giving away anything in this game is also a very important point. Not only for the defenders but from midfield and attacking players who did a really good job of stopping Aberdeen playing their game. They are a team with a lot of qualities that they showed in the beginning of the season.”

On Clinton Nsiala, who has stepped into the team in recent weeks with a number of defensive injuries, Clement continued: “ I am very happy with him, not only in the last few weeks but from the start of the season in his behaviour, his hunger to learn and the way he has been working hard with us and with the B team.

“He has been playing a lot of games there to create more experience at a higher level. He is taking really good steps, and he needs to keep the same focus, hunger and desire to become better because of course there’s still a lot of progress to be made at his age.

“It is a good thing to see so many young players taking really good steps in this squad and that the senior players are coming back at the end of the game and showing the right qualities to help the team and to support the team, so I think everybody sees we are on the right track with the whole squad.”
