Philippe Clement wants to transfer Ibrox form to away matches – The Irish News

Philippe Clement enjoyed Rangers’ dominant 3-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox and is looking to take that form on the road.

Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane fired the home side ahead in the 13th minute but it took until added time when goals from substitutes Leon Balogun and Cyriel Dessers gave the scoreline a better sheen and cut the deficit behind William Hill Premiership leaders Celtic to 13 points.

The Light Blues have taken 34 out of 36 points at home but have registered just three wins out of 11 away from Ibrox, which has dashed realistic title hopes.

“It’s important to score this second goal and the third goal to kill the belief of the opponent,” said Clement, who will have injured Robin Propper and Danilo assessed before the Scottish Cup tie against Fraserburgh on Sunday.

“We tried from the beginning to do that, like we always do, but you need a little bit of luck in these situations.

“We hit the crossbar, we hit the post, a few good saves also, a few blocks on the line, but the most important thing is to keep on creating these chances and to play the football that we want to play.

“But you see more and more that the team gets used to each other and the right running lines at the right moments.

“It takes time in that way. Our offensive four from today, they were not there last season.

“My players know, so that’s the way to go. They need to become better and they’re hungry to become better. Now we need to confirm these things in the away games.

“That’s for me the very important point for the next weeks and months.”

The Union Bears, the club’s ultras-style fan group, walked out of Sunday’s 3-1 win over St Johnstone at Ibrox in protest at the board and new chief executive Patrick Stewart’s public backing of their Belgian manager.

Although the atmosphere was much better against the Dons, there were more anti-board banners held up by the Unions Bears.

However, Clement said: “It’s about us on the pitch, showing the right things.

“I saw a lot of people who were happy after the game going home with a really good feeling because the team did what our ambition is, to do it much more.

“That’s our ambition and that’s why we’re working hard with all of them, to get it much more than we have had already this season.”

Jimmy Thelin’s side have now gone 12 league games without a win after going 11 unbeaten at the start of the season and he is looking for results to turn in their Scottish Cup tie against Elgin City on Saturday.

He said “We weren’t calm and composed enough. We were too stressed on the ball. We gave it away and played to their strengths.

“We still have a job to find a rhythm and find a way back soon to get results to get out of the other side of this.

“Rangers had more shots but we stayed in the game until the end.

“The players tried and ran for each other until the last minute.

“Every game is important and we need to win on Saturday against Elgin.

“We have to go through and live up to our reputation. We have time to prepare for the next league game and we can get the players settled.”
