Diomaye Faye plans modernizations for transport and the maritime sector

During the Council of Ministers on Wednesday January 15, 2025, chaired by the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, several measures were discussed in order to modernize the transport and maritime infrastructure sectors, according to the Sud Quotidien website. The Head of State insisted on the need to finalize the government action plan for the modernization of transport after the general meeting of the sector.

President Diomaye Faye asked the Prime Minister as well as the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport to implement a special system for regulating the circulation of mopeds, in accordance with the highway code. He also underlined the importance of renewing large aircraft and other transport vehicles to integrate these sectors into the development of youth employment.

Regarding the “Xeyu ndaw ñi” program, implemented since 2021, the President ordered its evaluation in order to reframe it towards a new initiative entitled “Youth employment”, for better integration of all employment targets. . This program should notably focus on job creation and entrepreneurship development.

Furthermore, the President placed emphasis on the “Vision Senegal 2050” by highlighting the development of the country’s maritime infrastructure. The Head of State urged the finalization of the new maritime and port policy. Particular emphasis must be placed on the modernization of ports and the creation of the General Delegation for Religious Affairs to strengthen relations between the State and religious communities.

Concerning external affairs, President Diomaye Faye instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to ensure the preparation of religious pilgrimages in 2025. In addition, during this meeting, the Prime Minister reported on the progress of his visit to Mauritania and the progress in the energy sector as well as in bilateral relations.

The ministers also presented communications, notably on the “Technological New Deal” digital strategy and the preparation of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
