Buffalo, NY – Lake-effect snow is expected to persist across western and northern New York through Thursday, impacting areas southeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario. Accumulations could reach up to 8 inches in localized spots, with treacherous travel conditions along I-90 and I-86. Residents are urged to exercise caution when commuting.

According to the National Weather Service, snow bands will strengthen overnight, with the heaviest snowfall targeting areas like Pulaski, Jamestown, and Springville. Winds gusting up to 28 mph will create reduced visibility, especially on open stretches of roadways. Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning will see the highest impacts.

The forecast for Thursday calls for snow continuing before tapering off in the afternoon. Daytime highs will hover around 28°F, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Snowfall totals of 1-3 inches are expected across Buffalo, while areas closer to the lake shores could see significantly higher amounts.

Looking ahead, Friday offers a brief reprieve with mostly cloudy skies and highs reaching the mid-30s. However, another snow system is anticipated over the weekend, bringing widespread snow showers on Saturday with a high near 38°F.

Motorists should avoid non-essential travel during peak snow times and keep an emergency kit in their vehicles. Those in higher-accumulation zones should also prepare for possible power outages due to heavy snow on tree branches and power lines.
