The PS “brought the NFP to the ground” by negotiating with the government, accuses Mélenchon: News

The PS put the New Popular Front “down” by negotiating with the government on pension reform, LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon accused on Tuesday, mocking the “grotesque” concessions granted, according to him, by the Prime Minister. Minister François Bayrou to the socialists.

“The concessions granted to the socialists are so grotesque, we will leave them the pleasure of explaining to you what it consists of,” quipped Jean-Luc Mélenchon in front of journalists.

“The outcome of the PS was to bring down the NFP and divide the unions,” continued the three-time presidential candidate.

“The trade union organizations do not agree among themselves on pension reform,” he said.

Without mentioning a “suspension” of the pension reform, a request from the socialists which bristled part of the presidential camp and the right, François Bayrou announced Tuesday during his general policy declaration a three-month “conclave” to re-discuss this reform with the social partners.

“Socialists have a choice: vote for censorship or support the government,” said Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

The founder of La insoumise also warned left-wing elected officials who would be tempted not to vote for the motion tabled by Mathilde Panot and 57 other deputies from LFI but also from environmentalist and communist groups.

“All those who do not vote for censure are leaving the NFP agreement so we are putting options on their constituency”, and we will present rebellious candidates against them, he warned.

“The count is not there,” said the boss of the socialist deputies Boris Vallaud in response to François Bayrou, without saying if his troops will vote for censure.

“I have the impression that half of the socialist group is going to vote (for it). Things are rumbling in the PS. All the environmentalists are going to vote for it and most of the deputies from the communist group as well”, also assured a rebellious executive.
