It was 8:24 a.m. this Tuesday morning when Charlie Dalin (Macif-Santé-Prévoyance) crossed the virtual finish line to win the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe. With a time of 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds, it pulverized by more than nine days the record for the event of 74 days, 3 hours and 35 minutes, established by Armel Le Cléac’h during the 2016-2017 edition.
Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa), Dalin’s runner-up with whom he has long had an uncertain mano a mano, will also finish well below this reference time. “ SIf the record is so broken, it is thanks to Yoann Richomme,” Charles Dalin paid tribute to him.
This Tuesday at 7 p.m., the skipper from Fréjus (Var) was 52 miles from the finish. He is expected this Wednesday morning early in Les Sables d’Olonne. According to the scores of his team and race management, he should arrive at 7:10 a.m. Entry into the channel is scheduled for 7:50 a.m. and arrival at the pontoon at 8:30 a.m.
The third Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) is expected on Friday. If there is now almost no doubt about the leading trio, the suspense remains for the places of honor behind the podium, with a fierce fight for 4th place. Jérémie Beyou (4th) and Sam Goodchild (5th) were only separated by ten miles (around 18.5 km) at the 7 p.m. check-in and had widened the gap a little on Paul Meilhat (6th).
A little further on, Nicolas Lunven (7th) now precedes by 135 miles a group of three made up of Justin Metaux, Thomas Ruyant and Boris Hermann, who are in that order in 80 miles. These seven navigators are located between the equator and the Cape Verde archipelago.
