Biting cold and widespread frosts were already present across the country as of Monday. Temperatures will not rise again immediately.
For the day of Tuesday January 14, 2025, 34 departments were placed on yellow “severe cold” vigilance by Météo France.
They are located across the entire northeastern quarter, in the center and part of the west of France. Here is the list of departments concerned:
- Ardennes ;
- Dawn;
- Aveyron;
- Cantal;
- Cher ;
- Corrèze;
- Côte-d’Or ;
- Dig;
- Doubs;
- Inner ;
- Jura ;
- Loir-et-Cher;
- Loire ;
- Haute-Loire;
- Loire-Atlantique;
- Loiret;
- Lozere;
- Marne ;
- Haute-Marne;
- Meurthe-et-Moselle;
- Meuse ;
- Moselle ;
- Nièvre;
- Bas-Rhin;
- Haut-Rhin ;
- Haute-Saône;
- Saône-et-Loire;
- Deux-Sèvres;
- Vendée;
- Vienna;
- Haute-Vienne;
- Vosges ;
- Yonne;
- Territory of Belfort.
Météo France had triggered this alert level for the first time in winter 2024-2025 for Sunday.
-Departments on flood, avalanche and wind vigilance
Furthermore, the orange “flood” vigilance will only concern the Oise on Tuesday.
Nine departments are placed on yellow “avalanche” alert. These are the departments located in the Alps (Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Hautes-Alpes) and on the arc of the Pyrenees (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Ariège, Pyrénées-Orientales). Andorra is also included in this list.
The Alpes-Maritimes will be on yellow alert because of the wind.
