The tension in Antwerp is rising, because the long-awaited derby between Beerschot and Antwerp is just around the corner. Dirk Kuyt is looking forward to this important clash.
The past few days in the dressing room were not easy for Beerschot. After the narrow loss in the cup against Anderlecht, the atmosphere was anything but positive. Kuyt indicated that the players were frustrated by the missed opportunities in the match, but he was also satisfied with the way the group immediately regained focus.
“The atmosphere was right for me, which meant that the players took the defeat seriously and were fully aware of it. Now we focus entirely on the derby,” Kuyt said in the Gazet van Antwerpen.
Kuyt has played many derbies himself and therefore understands well what a derby means. “This match is extremely important for the club, the city and the supporters,” says Kuyt.
