The President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, revealed this Friday January 10 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer “just three years ago”.
In an interview with the media Mesdames, she declared: “I had breast cancer which was detected as part of traditional screening which allowed me to catch it early and be able to have surgery, radiotherapy and follow-up behind it. “. MP Renaissance adds that she is “cured” today.
“Like for them (women who are diagnosed with cancer, Editor’s note), it was a bolt from the blue in my life. No one is prepared to have cancer,” she says on X. “Like them , I lived with the uncertainty of the diagnosis, the anxiety of the operation, the wait for the analysis results, the daily life of the treatments.”
She emphasizes the importance of screening. “Breast cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer…: don’t wait any longer!”, she writes.
The 54-year-old says she is “doing well” now and is on hormone therapy. Hormone therapy consists of preventing the stimulating action of female hormones on cancer cells.

Yaël Braun-Pivet had already spoken out in recent years about this disease, without mentioning her personal case, during the Pink October campaign to invite women to get tested. “Fighting breast cancer means firstly campaigning for regular screening, for all women regardless of their age – and for generalized screening every two years for all those over 50,” declared -she as part of this campaign in October 2023 for example.
