Actress Evgenia Dobrovolskaya has died – Meduza

Theater and film actress, People’s Artist of Russia Evgenia Dobrovolskaya has died.

Dobrovolskaya was 60 years old. The Chekhov Moscow Art Theater announced her death. The theater added that in the last year she had been “struggling with a serious illness,” but “despite all the thirst for life and stubbornness of spirit, her physical strength turned out to be finite.”

“The leading actress of the Art Theater, who has played dozens of leading roles on its stage for 33 years. Our Zhenya, infinitely talented and fearless and equally endlessly doubtful, unpredictable, extremely sincere, real always and in everything,” the message says.

Dobrovolskaya played at the Gorky Moscow Art Theater, the theater-studio under the direction of Oleg Tabakov, the Sovremennik-2 theater-studio, and since 1991 she served at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. She starred in many Soviet and Russian films and TV series, including the films “Mechanical Suite”, “The Canary Cage”, “Midlife Crisis”, “December 32”, “Before the Snow Falls”, “The Irony of Fate. Continuation”, as well as the series “Queen Margot”.

In 1998, Dobrovolskaya was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, and in 2005 – People’s Artist. She received prizes for best actress at festivals in Poland, Odessa, Berdyansk and at the Viva Cinema of Russia! festival. In 2008, Dobrovolskaya received the Golden Eagle Award for Best Actress in the film “Artist”.
