The fire brigade is still busy extinguishing fires in Nobelstraat in Hamont-Achel. Around noon, a serious fire broke out at metal processing company Punch Metals. Production had not yet restarted after the Christmas holidays. So there were no employees present in the company building.
The fire brigade of the North Limburg emergency zone is currently still trying to get the last fire under control. It concerns hydraulic oil, which they allow to burn out in a controlled manner. Shortly after the fire broke out, a huge plume of smoke could be seen far into the area. The surrounding streets were closed by the police. Local residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation systems. The danger has now passed. There is currently still light smoke development, which is drifting in the direction of Hamont and Budel. Anyone who might still experience inconvenience is advised to leave windows and doors closed for a while. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
