The wait is over: “Squid Game” season two is here. After the first season was a worldwide success and reached number one on Netflix in 83 countries, the new one was released on Thursday. As brutal as it ended in the last episode of the first season, it continues in the first episode of the second season. The first blood flows after just three minutes.
Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae, 52), who won the first edition of the deadly games three years ago, discovers a bug under the skin behind his ear. He cuts these out with a carpet knife. The main character has made it his mission to expose the masterminds behind the “Squid Game”. To achieve his goal, he returns to the murderous children’s games in the second season.
The great anticipation was particularly noticeable on social media. In some cases, countdowns were created and there was already speculation about the possible plot. When the time came at nine o’clock in Europe, the fans’ reactions were varied. While some report that they were captivated from the first minute, for others it seems to be too brutal this time. “It starts like that in the first episode? That’s crazy,” writes a user on X.
For some, the new season is “too bloody”. But fans don’t quite agree on that either. «The first part was bloody and brutal. That’s what makes the series special and is simply part of it,” writes a user under an X post. Others are skeptical: “It will never be as good as the first season.” The number of episodes is also criticized. “You wait three years for just seven episodes. This is a joke,” writes one user on Instagram.

Gi-hun uses his prize money to pay several men to search the Seoul subway stations for the competition’s recruiter. Two of them initially pursue the recruiter, but are caught and kidnapped by him. Then the two pursuers have to play “rock, paper, scissors” against each other. The first death occurs in minute 44. The loser of them will be shot.
However, it doesn’t stop with just one death. In the end, Gi-hun himself competes against the recruiter in Russian Roulette. The nameless recruiter catches the bullet in the barrel and shoots himself with it. “Squid Game” director and inventor Hwang Dong-hyuk (53) made it clear to “Bild” that the series is not for children. “From the beginning, the series was created for adults who are able to understand that it is an allegory of contemporary society, the contradictions of capitalist society and the social violence in today’s world.”
