Reforming the Family Code.. The King is leading a steady path towards enhancing rights and equality

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, chaired an important working session devoted to the subject of reviewing the Family Code, which witnessed the presence of various parties concerned with reforming the Family Code, including members of the body in charge of the review, as well as representatives of the Supreme Scientific Council.

This working session is the culmination of the series of extensive consultation and discussion adopted by His Majesty on the subject of reviewing the Family Code, which was characterized by passing through multiple stages of listening and listening to all those involved, formulating and adapting proposals, and expressing a jurisprudential opinion on them, to finally reach the legislative initiative stage.

This session also comes in the wake of the end of the preparatory stages for the series of reviewing the Family Code after His Majesty referred the proposals related to religious texts to the consideration of the Supreme Scientific Council, which issued a legal opinion regarding them and carried out the necessary arbitrations that seek the interest of the Moroccan family in accordance with the references and desired goals.

His Majesty the King focused on the need to adapt the family code to the development of Moroccan society, adherence to the purposes of Islamic law and the peculiarities of Moroccan society, and rely on the virtues of moderation, open diligence, consultation and dialogue, as well as preserving basic references and principles such as justice, equality, solidarity and harmony derived from the teachings of true Islam and international agreements. Promoting equality and protecting the family as the basic cell of society.

The reform of these balanced workshops relied on the virtue of constructive diligence, open dialogue and consultation, involving all components of Moroccan society in this important work, from religious councils to non-governmental organizations and activities concerned with human rights and the rights of women and children.

In the same context, His Majesty the King stressed keeping male and female citizens informed of the latest developments in the review of the Family Code, and the main contents of this review, which the government will ensure is well crystallized and formulated in a legislative initiative within reasonable deadlines.

His Majesty also stressed the need for the legislative initiative to be clear and understandable to citizens, guarantee their rights and contribute to strengthening the culture of legal awareness among various groups of society, calling on His Majesty to create legal awareness programs that enable citizens to be better informed about their rights and duties.

His Majesty the King also called on the Supreme Scientific Council to create an institutional framework to expand the field of jurisprudence in addressing issues related to the family, thus allowing a broader scope for continued research and innovation in line with the developments of the times.

This initiative aims to strengthen the role of the Supreme Scientific Council in preserving the continuity of the family entity and protecting it in light of social and legal developments.

The Moroccan model in the field of family reform is distinguished by its uniqueness at the regional and international levels, through the adoption of a dynamic, open and comprehensive approach that takes into account the challenges of the future and respects the privacy of Moroccan society, with the aim of protecting the Moroccan family as the pillar of society, and ensuring its well-being and stability.
