Udinese delivered a top performance by winning against Fiorentina (2-1) on the 17th day of Serie A.

Thanks to a decisive goal from Florian Thauvin, the Friulani showed their ambition in the fight for European places, while inflicting a hard blow on a Fiorentina in search of consistency. The match started well for the locals, who opened the scoring in the 8th minute. After a VAR intervention, a penalty was awarded to Fiorentina, which Moise Kean, always incisive, transformed with composure. This early goal seemed to indicate a favorable evening for the locals, who dominated the first exchanges thanks to controlled possession and impactful offensive phases.

Thauvin frees Udinese

Udinese, however, was quick to react. As soon as they returned from the locker room, the visitors took advantage of a restart error by the Florentine defense. Lorenzo Lucca, an opportunist, perfectly adjusted a precise shot to equalize in the 49th minute, completely changing the dynamic of the match. A few minutes later, Florian Thauvin, captain and leader of the Friulani, lit up the evening with a high-class individual action. In the 57th minute, the former Olympique de player eliminated two defenders before beating David De Gea with an unstoppable strike.

This fifth goal from the French international this season confirms his central role in Udinese's European ambitions. Despite repeated attempts to come back to the score, notably thanks to a very active Moise Kean, Fiorentina came up against a solid and well-organized Friulian defense. The Florentine attack lacked precision in the last move, while Udinese was able to preserve its advantage until the final whistle. With this precious victory, Thauvin's comrades climb to 9th place in the ranking with 23 points, getting closer to the European places.
