Should Club's 2-2 never have counted? Tzolis appears to hit the ball twice, “but there were no good cameras”

An equalizer with a little scent on it. Club Brugge corrected a lopsided situation at Union on Sunday evening, but the 2-2 seemed to have been preceded by an incorrect free kick. Did Tzolis hit the ball twice or not? “I thought so, but they said there were no good cameras,” said Union midfielder Noah Sadiki.

A double lead, a great comeback and a brilliant collaboration between Simon Mignolet and Hans Vanaken to turn the 3-2 from the goal line in the very last minute.

The top match between Union and Club Brugge was full of phases to reflect on, but the equalizer was what really stuck with the Union players. Should it have continued?

Christos Tzolis took a free kick around the Union penalty area. He wanted to swing the ball hard in front of goal, but slipped away at the moment of his cross. It was difficult to see, but due to the strange curve of the ball, the Greek seemed to have hit the leather twice. That is of course not allowed.

The phase continued and after some wrangling, Gustaf Nilsson was able to score the 2-2 against the ropes. Discharge at Club, although VAR still looked into the incident.

To me it looked like he touched the ball twice.

Noah Sadiki

In the end the goal did go through. Nowhere was there incontrovertible evidence of Tzolis' double ball touch.

But Noah Sadiki still had a sour feeling about it. “Whether the 2-2 was a correct result? Yes and no,” he said.

“Yes, because Club played well in the second half and found the right options. They actually took us a bit tactically.”

“But no, because I think it was very close with the second goal. To me it looked like he touched the ball twice. But they say they don't have good cameras here. So I can't change anything anymore.”
