Hamburg celebrates a landslide victory – Karlsruhe is the new league leader

Second division football team Hamburger SV said goodbye to the winter break with a clear home win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

After a strong first quarter of an hour, HSV beat Fürth 5-0 (3-0) on matchday 17 and moved into second place in the top group of the league. Interim coach Merlin Polzin collected important arguments for a permanent position with his team's strong performance.

Just a few moments after the minute's silence in memory of the victims of the alleged attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market, the advanced central defender Dennis Hadzikadunic (1st) headed his colors in front after a corner. Davie Selke (11th) and Adam Karabec (13th) added a double strike against the guests' overwhelmed defense.

With the comfortable lead behind them, the Rothosen managed their lead without much trouble. It wasn't until the second half that things started moving forward again. Selke (59th) scored a brace, then 17-year-old Otto Stange (76th) scored his first professional goal. This means that the Hamburg team is second in the table, at least until Sunday.

KSC at the top for now

Led by the outstanding top scorer Budu Siwziwadze and thanks to ruthless efficiency, Karlsruher SC has stormed to the top of the 2nd league. The Georgian scored his twelfth goal of the season in Baden's lucky 2-1 (2-1) win at SC Paderborn and took the lead.

This means that the KSC is at least temporarily in first place, but on Sunday Kaiserslautern or Cologne can still overtake Hanover in a direct duel. Sebastian Jung (16th) and Zivsiwadze (35th) put the guests in front. Raphael Obermair (45th, penalty kick) shortened the gap, but could not prevent the third Paderborn game without a win in a row.

Cellar duel without a winner

Preußen Münster and SSV Ulm drew 0-0 in the 2nd Bundesliga and are therefore stuck further down. Ulm has been waiting for ten matches and a win since September 27th, but six of the last seven games have not been lost. Münster is still two points ahead of the fellow promoted team.

It was a competitive encounter from the start, but the quality of play was manageable. The guests posed more of a goal threat in the first half. Semir Telalovic (7th) and Philipp Strompf (32nd) failed due to the strong reaction of Prussia goalkeeper Johannes Schenk.

Even after the break, both teams tried hard, but lacked the resources. Chances to score remained scarce for a long time, then Münster's Joel Grodowski (88th) hit the post.
