In a statement exclusively to Hespress, Al-Hussein Youabed, communications officer at the General Directorate of Meteorology, provided comprehensive details about this weather condition, indicating that heights exceeding 1,800 meters will witness snowfalls during the weekend, with a significant drop in temperatures, especially in the interior areas. . The cold weather is expected to continue with scattered rain in some areas, in addition to the formation of frost and ice on the highlands and high plateaus.
Youabed said: “Although our country and large areas of Western Europe and North Africa are affected by vast and strong areas of high air pressure, the upper layers of the atmosphere are witnessing the effect of a low air depression (cut-off) accompanied by cold air masses, which leads to the flow of some moisture towards the northwest of the country.” And the Atlas Heights.
The communication official at the General Directorate of Meteorology explained, “This situation will lead to a drop in temperatures, especially inside the country, and snow is expected to fall this weekend on the Atlas Heights, which are more than 1,800 meters high.”
As for the weather forecast for the coming days, according to Yoabed, “The weather today, Saturday, will be characterized by snowfall in the High and Middle Atlas highlands at an altitude exceeding 1,900 meters, with rain or showers in these and neighboring areas.”
The weather will remain relatively cold in the morning and at night, with local frost formation in the High and Middle Atlas highlands and the south of the eastern region. Some western regions of the Mediterranean coast, the central regions, and the northwest of the southern regions may also witness scattered light rains, with local fog forming on the plains and northern and central coasts.
As for Sunday, the cold weather will continue with ice or frost forming on the highlands and plateaus, and the weather will be cloudy at times, with scattered rain on the eastern slopes of the High and Anti-Atlas and morning snowfalls on the peaks of the High Atlas.
