Dustin Jacoby nearly lost his toe in freak accident before big UFC win

Dustin Jacoby, produced a magnificent display inside the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, on Saturday evening, finishing his opponent in the third round.

But the fact that he made it to the octagon at all is remarkable, considering the horrifying injury he sustained in the build-up.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, he explained: “Three weeks prior to the fight, I completely ripped my right big toe off my foot. I could not run, walk, train, nothing the entire week.

“I was really nervous that I was not going to be able to make the walk to the octagon. In over 50 pro fights between MMA and kickboxing, I’ve never not once shown up on the day that I was going to when I sign the contract.”

Of course, this will make many wonder what exactly the American meant when he says he ‘ripped’ his toe off his foot. And it’s fair to say, his explanation isn’t for the fainthearted.

He confessed: “I grabbed my toe to see how bad it was, and my entire toe just came off my foot. It was like a door hinge. I freaked out, I pushed it back and I looked around and I was like ‘I have to go somewhere right now.’ Immediately at that point I’m like, I’m not fighting. My fight’s done. I have to fight in three weeks.”

Luckily, after a trip to visit his doctor, he was informed it was a dislocation, that was fixed by resetting it back in the socket.

Davey Grant nearly had his toe amputated ahead of UFC Tampa

Strangely, it appears Saturday night’s card was plagued with MMA stars nearly losing their toes before the event itself.

Like Jacoby, Davey Grant suffered from worrying medical issues, with the Brit concerned he could be in jeopardy of losing the body part.

Regardless, he managed to make it to the fight and win in style.

He’s opened up about what happened prior to his contest, admitting that his toe was almost amputated.
