The founder of Tesla and Space X had already announced that he wanted to grant “the largest donation in British political history” to Nigel Farage.
“Only the AfD could save Germany”published Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, on X this Friday. He “republished” a video from Naomi Seibt, an activist close to the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), a German nationalist party, who denounced Friedrich Merz, the conservative candidate leading the polls for the German elections on February 23. This one “implies that we will not see a reduction in our unnecessary bureaucracy like Javier Milei (Argentinian President) and Elon Musk (appointed Minister of Government Efficiency by Donald Trump),” explains the influencer.
“Friedrich Merz, like the other parties, announced that he would refuse to form a coalition with the AfD or even engage in any form of discussion with them”she regretted. For the moment, the conservative candidate (CDU) obtains around 30% favorable opinions. But the German electoral system, designed for coalitions, requires alliances between parties. In July 2023, Friedric Merz, who has led the CDU since the beginning of 2022, ruled out alliances with the AFD at the level of the Länder (federal regions), the state or the European Parliament.
Elon Musk is not his first political foray into Europe. Our colleagues from Telegraph announced on Tuesday that it was ready to grant “the biggest donation in British political history” : 100 million dollars. A financial contribution which would go into the coffers of Nigel Farage's Reform party, an offshoot of the anti-European UKIP party. His party won five seats in the House of Commons in last July's election.
