the 20 drivers and the 10 teams

Curtain ! Final scene of the last act in a transfer market which lasted a year, Red Bull concluded the composition of the grid for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The Austrian firm had the keys to the last uncertainties, resting above all on the fate which would be reserved for Sergio Pérez.

By prematurely terminating the two-year contract that the Mexican still had and which had been extended last June, Red Bull called (almost) everything into question. This is Liam Lawson who will team up with the reigning quadruple world champion Max Verstappen next year, while the French driver Isack Hadjar will make his big debut in with Racing Bulls, supporting a Yuki Tsunoda who will inevitably be disappointed not to having been promoted.

Racing Bulls, in fact, is the new name now assumed by the sister team of Red Bull Racing, while retaining its two title sponsors. This is the only real change on the team side, before welcoming Cadillac as the 11th team and Audi (instead of Stake Sauber) in 2026.

The arrival of Isack Hadjar allows to find a total of three drivers in Formula 1, which we have not seen since 2020. He thus joins Pierre Gasly, who continues the adventure at Alpine, and Esteban Ocon who is embarking on a new project at Haas.

A profound renewal of the plateau

Newness, freshness and youth, there will obviously be some with no less than five rookies if we include Oliver Bearman (who competed in three Grands Prix in 2024) at Haas, in addition to F2 champion Gabriel Bortoleto at Stake Sauber, Jack Doohan at Alpine and Kimi Antonelli at Mercedes.

The Italian driver, who has given the Boot a representative in the championship since the departure of Antonio Giovinazzi, will have the difficult task of succeeding the one towards whom a lot of eyes, including those of his own compatriots, will be turned: Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari , it is now time, after the “transfer of the century” announced on February 1st.

Finally, among the other defectors, we should mention the arrival of Carlos Sainz (ex-Ferrari) at Williams and that of Nico Hülkenberg (ex-Haas) at Stake Sauber. A year after unprecedented stagnation, the stage has moved enormously to approach the last year of the current regulations.

He also loses several elements whose chances of returning to F1 are reduced: Valtteri Bottas (246 GP, 10 victories), Kevin Magnussen (185 GP), Zhou Guanyu (68 GP), to whom must be added Daniel Ricciardo (257 GP ) and Logan Sargeant (36 GP). On the sidelines for the moment, Franco Colapinto (9 GP) obviously aspires to get back behind the wheel as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
