Storm Dioniso is sweeping the south-east of France with winds reaching 110 km/h in Bouches-du-Rhône and orange alert in Corsica. Speed restrictions, particularly for heavy goods vehicles, are imposed (from 10 p.m. this Thursday) to avoid accidents linked to these exceptional weather conditions. The authorities are calling for vigilance until the situation improves.
Faced with this phenomenon, the prefectures of the departments concerned have put in place traffic restrictions from 10 p.m. this Thursday. Speeds on the motorways crossing Bouches-du-Rhône and Var (A7,A8,A50,A51,A52,A54,A55,A57,A570) are lowered by 20 km/h. Heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes, which are particularly sensitive to side winds, must not exceed 70 km/h.
In Corsica, placed on orange alert, residents are asked to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in exposed areas where branches and various objects could be thrown. “These violent winds present a real danger for the stability of vehicles and the safety of users.», underline the prefectures.
The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice while authorities monitor the storm’s progress. They also remind users to regularly check the weather forecasts and to scrupulously respect the limitations in force.
