“It was very complicated for me”: eliminated from Best Pastry Chef, Romain confides in the difficulties encountered

This Thursday, December 19, Romain left Le Meilleur pâtissier after a day focused on the theme of Portugal. The candidate, who had managed to re-enter the competition, spoke to Tele-Leisure on his journey on the show.

The technical test of Best Pastry Chef this Thursday, December 19 put the candidates to the test, forcing them to blindly identify the ingredients of a creation by Portuguese pastry chef Jorge Cardoso. Tsiory brilliantly met the challenge by finding all six clues, while Romain only discovered half of them. To everyone’s surprise, José, usually efficient, finished last in this event. Timothée, for his part, was able to pull himself together by winning the Golden Cupcake and first place in the technical event for the seventh time in eleven weeks.

Romain, who was already eliminated the first time, spoke about his feelings: “Being eliminated for the first time is never easy to accept. Coming back gave me additional pressure and motivation. I had to show Cyril Lignac and Mercotte that I had my place”, he confided to our colleagues at Tele-Leisure. But despite his boundless creativity, the technical events proved to be the biggest challenge for him. He says: “It’s not something that thrills me to make a pastry following a recipe from A to Z. I need creativity, impulse, emotions, a feeling.”

Romain eliminated from Best Pastry Chef 2024: a journey marked by resilience and creativity

The challenge of the week in Portugal, where the candidates had to guess the ingredients of a cake blindly, was particularly striking: “It was very complicated for me to identify the elements of the dessert. It showed because I had half the recipe.” And even in difficulty, he knew how to keep his smile and his legendary optimism. “For me, above all, it’s the smile, the peach. I managed to overcome all that by doing humor.” Unfortunately, this performance was not enough to save Romain, who was eliminated at the gates of the semi-final. Despite his elimination, the young candidate remains proud of his career. “I wasn’t sad, I was just proud of my journey and everything I had experienced in this tent.” The sequel looks promising…
