There has been a lot to celebrate in her career: This is the seventh reception for Karin Keller-Sutter in Wil SG.
Despite the cold weather, numerous people in Wil celebrated “their” Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter. They were able to warm up their hands with the free bratwurst.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Karin Keller-Sutter arrived in Wil on the special train from Bern. On the courtyard there were speeches by the incumbent Federal President Viola Amherd and the St. Gallen District President Susanne Hartmann.
KKS, as Karin Keller-Sutter is often called, also addressed those present and then sang the Wiler carnival song with her former carnival guild “Wiler Tüüfel”.
Karin Keller-Sutter’s political career has had many stages and electoral successes. That’s why this is the seventh reception that the city of Wil has held for them. A man on the side of the road says: “I was at the receptions every time. It makes me proud.”

For the mayor of Wil, Hans Mäder, the reception is not routine: “I’m not nervous, but it’s a special moment.” And he also reveals what the city of Wil has prepared as a gift for the soon-to-be Federal President: a picture of a favorite artist by Karin Keller-Sutter.
People like to party. A couple says: “We took extra time off. It’s just interesting because it’s in Wil. And we are from here. That doesn’t always happen.”
Moderator and comedian Renato Kaiser led the event and received laughter and applause: “What a day for Wil! A Federal President who comes from Wil. This is the biggest win for Wil since FC Wil’s 11-3 win against FC St. Gallen.”
In her speech, the St. Gallen district president Susanne Hartmann praised Keller-Sutter, among other things, for not forgetting her roots: “And so the concerns of eastern Switzerland always find an open ear in Federal Bern, which is very valuable for us.” She concluded her speech with: “We are proud of you.”
The last time there was a federal president from the canton of St. Gallen was exactly 40 years ago. Kurt Furgler was Federal President for the third time in 1985 – previously in 1981 and 1977.
The reception took place in Wil, but was organized by the canton of St. Gallen. Upon request, it was said that the event would cost the canton a maximum of 150,000 francs.
