Met Office issues urgent yellow warnings for brutal gales battering nearly all parts of UK | Weather | News

The Met Office issued three yellow warnings for wind on Thursday.

Two of the alerts last between 7am and 11.59pm on Saturday, while a third spans between midnight and 9pm on Sunday.

The warnings for Saturday cover Scotland and most of Northern Ireland.

Also included is the north west of England down to Manchester, Liverpool and Blackpool.

Further, the top of Wales have been urged to take the alert into account, in places such as Holyhead, Bangor and St. Asaph.

Leeds, Carlisle and Whitehaven can also expect inclement weather, with Newcastle and Middlesborough not being included in the Met Office advisory.

The Sunday weather warning is larger, including all of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The entirety of Wales is also absorbed by the advice zone.

A small part of Newcastle upon Tyne is included in England, along with swathes of the north west, such as Carlisle, Workington, Lancaster, Preston, Manchester and Liverpool, Burnley, Warrington and Chester.

Some of the West Midlands is also set to be affected, such as Stoke on Trent and part of Worcestershire.

Gloucester is also included in the warning, as well as Salisbury in Wiltshire.

All of the south west of England has also been asked to bear the Met Office’s alert in mind, from Devizes all the way to Hugh Town off the coast.

Places that have been warned can expect, officials say, some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Also, it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

There will probably be some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.

In addition, some short term loss of power and other services is possible.

People should expect delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges, and there is a small chance of isolated.
