Marcelino: “We are in a situation where without making mistakes the rival penalizes us”

Villarreal (Castellón), Dec 17 (EFE).- Villarreal coach, Marcelino García Toral, said this Tuesday, on the eve of facing Rayo Vallecano in El Madrigal in the match that was postponed due to the damage, that his team finds himself in a situation in which “even without making mistakes, the opponent” “penalizes” him, especially at home, where he believes he has “conceded a lot, too much.”

“I don’t think the Betis game has much history either. It’s a game in which the opponent has a high level of effectiveness. We should have scored more goals, but they don’t materialize. In the last games, like this one, we lost freshness and we are less forceful than we were,” Marcelino commented to the media.

The Asturian coach believes that after the elimination in the Copa del Rey they must “rectify and change that state of mind”, in addition to “analyzing the previous and thinking about the next.” “When you come from a negative dynamic, unknown to us so far this season, you have to reactivate yourself,” he said.

In addition, Marcelino stressed that his team “is not being accurate in the areas” and must work to be so because it has “a very good attitude and sufficient capacity.”

Despite the current moment, the coach assured that the team maintains “that enthusiasm and ambition, the same as in October and November.” “We will continue to have it until the end” to fight to compete in the next edition of the Champions League, he added.

“Do you think there can be any illusion in the world of football that a team like Villarreal can manage to play the ‘Champions’ without effort? We have had very good months and December has been worse, but that does not make us think that We cannot play ‘Champions’ nor did we think before that we would get it easily,” he said.

Marcelino also highlighted that when you fight to go to the top continental tournament “that means you have a solid base” and added that they are “optimistic” and remain “excited” to reach the goal.

“Now we have a difficult moment and we need that help, that support and that strength that the fans can give us. And then we will all fight together to see where we can get to the end. After 38 days, I think you get where you deserve. Now we have this match and I think there are possibilities, I am sure, that we are going to win. This is adding and adding,” he said.

Likewise, despite the setback, Marcelino warned that they are not going to “change many things in the team, because after coming from unfavorable results” they cannot “turn around.”

“The general context of the game when attacking will be similar, also taking into account who we are facing. It will be a complicated match, because Rayo is a difficult opponent. They are the third team in the category that concedes the fewest goals away from home , and that will force us to be focused,” he declared.

He also pointed out concentration and success on the field as key, aspects that he described as “indispensable to beat Rayo and any other rival,” and demanded the presence of the fans at La Cerámica despite having “a complicated schedule.”

Regarding the influence that the numerous absences – up to ten – may have on the decline experienced, the coach pointed out that they have to “try to reach the highest level with the players” they have because he does not like to “look for excuses for missing so many players or important players”, since every team is noticed when it does not have the entire squad. “We have to try to minimize that problem,” he added.

Having little recovery time after the weekend’s game, the Villarreal coach indicated that he has to wait until the last moment to know if he can count on French defender Logan Costa, but he will have Santi Comesaña. “The rest are the same, excluding the three players who are suspended,” he added.
