What Happens Between Ethan & The Traveler in Carry-On?

Netflix’s Carry-On has finally arrived and fans are eager to know its ending. The 2024 action thriller follows Ethan, a TSA agent contacted by a mysterious passenger with malicious intent known as the Traveler, who is blackmailing him to smuggle a dangerous bag into a plane.

Here’s how the movie Carry-On ends.

Does Ethan defeat the Traveler at the end of Carry-On?

Yes, Ethan (Taron Egerton) does defeat the Traveler (Jason Bateman) at the end of Carry-On.

The ending of the movie was a rollercoaster of action and intrigue, neatly tying up all the loose ends. It turns out that the mysterious bag actually contains a lethal nerve agent that the Traveler smuggled into the plane in order to assassinate a politician. Ethan eventually figures this out and acts fast. He realizes that the Traveler will not be boarding the plane like everyone initially thought so.

Meanwhile, the police are closing in on him fast. Ethan then boards the plane and secretly enters the cargo hold, where he then attempts to deactivate the deadly nerve agent. This sends an alert on the Traveler’s phone who enters the cargo hold as well.

The two men come face to face leading to a dangerous showdown where the Traveler attempts to shoot Ethan. The scuffle alerts the pilots and they fly the plane back to LAX. Finally, Ethan reveals that he has thrown the nerve agent into a fridge along with the Traveler, which ultimately kills the villain.

The film ends with Ethan becoming a cop, like he’d alwayst dreamt of. Earlier in the movie, we’d learnt that he was kicked out of the police academy after lying a polygraph test. When asked whether he’d ever witnessed a crime that he didn’t report, Ethan lied saying he had never. Thus, taking out the Traveler allowed Ethan to redeem himself after all these years. In the end, he finally fulfilled his lifelong dream and became a police officer.
