After saying yes, Toni from Lübben carried his bride Pia in his hands. In the penultimate episode of “Wedding at First Sight” the chances of a future together become clear.

Three camps emerge: those who already had a serious crisis during their honeymoon. Those who fell in love with each other. And those who are somewhere in between – like Toni (31) and Pia (27). For them, the outcome of the marriage experiment is completely uncertain – for now. Because in this episode the two finally take a deeper look.

Preparations are already underway in the background for the big decision show, at the end of which the question will be: marriage or divorce? “This year it is particularly exciting because in one case or another it is very difficult to predict what the couples will decide,” says qualified psychologist Markus Ernst from the expert trio from “Wedding at First Sight”. But before that happens, the women and men see each other again separately. Of course Toni, who comes from Lübben (Dahme-Spreewald), and his wife Pia are also there.

Looking into the past with mixed feelings

In a relaxed group of women and men, the ex-singles toast each other and look forward to exchanging ideas with their “fellow sufferers”. Toni is “cautiously enthusiastic that it’s now coming to the end,” as he says. And adds: “Perhaps the time has come for that.”

For precisely this ending, the makers of “Wedding at First Sight” have thought of something new: a journey back in time to the most emotional moments of marriage. And that’s where it starts: In a darkened room, like in a museum, memorabilia from the time of two are on display. Wedding outfits, photos, travel souvenirs.

Pia and Toni enter the room individually – and are quickly overwhelmed by their emotions. When Pia stands in front of the calligraphy painting from Japan, tears roll down: “The moment when we experienced and did it together was so emotional, and that just brings it back again. “It does different things to you – both moments of happiness and moments where you then thought more about it,” says the North German.

Toni (31) from Lübben: “I’m in a vacuum”

The likeable Spreewalder Toni also struggles with his emotions as he walks through the room. With a thoughtful expression, he looks at a photo that shows the happy couple on their wedding day. “She smiles very beautifully and I like that about her too. Exactly that smile that she gave me the first two days and that then became more difficult,” says Toni, agitated.

“I would say that they were also beautiful moments,” he adds later. “I’ve actually looked at it on my phone a few times over the last few days. My heart probably doesn’t know where it should go right now and is looking for the right track.” The trained educator describes the whole situation like this: “I’m in a vacuum where it’s difficult for someone to get you out again.”

For the first time, open and clear words

Pia feels the same way: “It’s just the last few weeks that have an effect on you now, because it was really a lot… and just such a big mess. “I don’t even know how to sort it out or where I stand right now,” she says. However, she doesn’t have much time to figure it out.

If Toni has his way, the decision has already been made. For the first time he finds surprisingly open, clear words: “I am also a realist and know that it is rather difficult. I don’t suppose there will be any getting to know each other afterwards. I just have the feeling that it’s not likely.” In the past episodes, the couple had never clearly acknowledged each other or commented on a possible future.

Is Toni right? Or does the story take an unexpected turn? We finally find out in episode 9 of “Wedding at First Sight”. She is on Monday evening (December 23rd) one 8:15 p.m on Sat.1 or in advance on the streaming platform Joy’s to see.
