Inter Milan wingback feels that teammate Alessandro Bastoni deserves credit for his goal in this evening’s Serie A rout of Lazio.
The Dutchman spoke to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 6-0 victory away at the Stadio Olimpico, via FCInterNews.
Dumfries certainly had an eye-catching performance against Lazio this evening.
The 28-year-old had a tough task. He was up against in-form Biancocelesti wingback Nuno Tavares.
And Dumfries did his job defensively against the Portuguese.
But it was in the final third that Dumfries really shone. He got an assist for Inter’s second goal, with a marvellous chipped cross to fellow wingback Federico Dimarco.
And then, for the Nerazzurri’s fourth goal, Dumfries got himself on the scoresheet.
The former PSV wingback showed his knack for timing his runs and his aerial ability to head home as Inter really started to run away with the match in the second half.
But Dumfries would not have been in the position to score were it not for a special ball from his teammate.
After the match, Dumfries beamed “It was a great match!”
“I’m very proud,” the Dutch international continued.
“This results sends a very good message for us. And for the title race.”
“I’m really happy with the result,” Dumfries continued.
And the 28-year-old also wasn’t taking too much credit for his goal. “The goal, what a ball from Bastoni!” he said.
“I’m happy to have scored.”
“Working together certainly helps us to achieve our goal,” Dumfries added. “It allows certain moments of play to come more easily.”
Inter have once again caught up to within three points of Atalanta, and one point of Napoli. However, they have a game in hand on both, as well as on Lazio and Fiorentina who they are now three points clear of.
