The American actress, who has long declared herself opposed to returning to the world of the cult series, has finally changed her mind.

“Before, I always said no (to a 'Buffy' return), because 'Buffy' is in a bubble and it's a perfect show,” she said.
“But seeing Sex and the City (which is the subject of a sequel launched in 2021, And Just Like That…Editor’s note) and seeing DexterI realized that there are ways to do it. It gets in your head and it makes you say, 'Well, maybe'.”
“And it wouldn’t necessarily be a prequel?” Christian Slater asked him. “No, it could be anything,” she replied. “(Buffy), it's a whole universe. And it makes you realize that in the world that is ours, we need these heroes more than ever.”
Past success
Launched in 1997, Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed the misadventures of Buffy Summers, a teenager chosen to fight the forces of evil. This creation by Joss Whedon, broadcast for seven years and as many seasons, has risen to the rank of cult series. Despite this success, Sarah Michelle Gellar has been reluctant to reprise her role in the past.
Particularly in 2018, when a project (which never saw the light of day) for a new version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer had been announced. The actress, if she had said she was seduced by the idea of a new version, declared that she would not take part:
“I think it's a great story and I'm happy that it's being told again, and I hope the public will watch it,” she told The Wrap. “But you know, I’ve already told my story.”
